Hi friends, I started on Adderall this week and I’m having a rough time. I take an anxiety medication I was hoping would calm out the anxiety I feel on it. I do like how it helps me focus, but I feel very irritable on it as well. Any luck with other medications you all have tried if you’ve experienced this? Also, has anyone seen a therapist for ADHD specifically? Feeling hopeless

Also, I kinda go to therapy for my ADHD. At first it was for some depression and stuff, but my therapist (who has ADHD) suggested I get diagnosed and ever since it’s been a big focus in our sessions

I’m not on adderal, but I have been taking Vyvanse for a couple months now and that’s pretty similar. I’d say keep taking it with as few breaks as possible for the first month. The anxiety should go away. That’s how it was with me. If it sticks around, tell your doctor and they can move you over to something else. Like I said, Vyvanse is very similar but probably a bit safer, so that’s an idea if you have to switch meds

Adderall made my ADD worse. Try Vyvanse.

Thank you for these tips. So helpful! It’s exhausting tbh to find the right medication when I’m already exhausted from having adhd as it is. So nice to know others are on this same tough journey

Adderall was like that for me to. I’m on ritalin now and don’t experience any of those negative symptoms… however it also doesn’t allow me to focus as well as adderall did unfortunately (gonna try a higher dose soon to see if it will help) . Symptoms of anxiety and irritability mean you are not on the right med for you. My insurance (kaiser) offered me free adhd behavioral group therapy, something like that could be helpful to you. I also did a 6 week ADHD coaching program with an ADHD coach which was amazing and very helpful but also expensive and not covered by insurance (my job paid for it as professional development). Don’t lose hope! There are soooo many medications and treatments out there, you will find what works for you.
