anyone have any adhd eating tips? I struggle a lot w eating and with exercise (sensory issues) and I’m really trying to be healthier (used to be a binge eater and am now slightly worried I’m using my meds to relieve my dopamine-driven food cravings lol). anyways I was just wondering if anyone had any advice – particularly about exercising and how to stop snacking

Biggest help for me has been just not buying snacks. I constantly crave them but if the only food in the house is actual meals... I know it's easier said than done but I find if I only do grocery shopping when I need ingredients to cook with I end up buying less extra crap because I'm aware of how much I'm already spending and it adds up quick
Also tricking my brain 🤣 I go for crappier options of my go to snacks (like switching regular coke for coke zero) and because I like them less I tend to eat less of them... But it's usually close enough that the craving is satisfied just enough I can move on:)

Man I really know the feel. I’ve been following a lot of ADHD Dietitians on Instagram lately (adhd.nutritionist is my favorite) and been doing a lot of reading on the concept Intuitive Eating. From what I’ve learned for myself, if I eat enough at regular times (every 3-4 hours), I don’t need to snack as often, and I don’t feel the need to binge at night as much. I always try to be nice to myself when I eat too much and try to remember to listen to my hunger and try to find something else that’s stimulating. It’s a process! 🤗

I definitely lean on my adderall to curb my binge-snacking, but I found that blocking out "food time" throughout the day helps me. I block out 5 windows of time per day, and I can eat whatever I want during those time blocks. If I'm craving food outside of food time then I chew on ice or otherwise distract my senses. My only "rule" for the food itself is that I have to have at least one nutritional food between each comfort food, so if I eat some chips, the next thing I eat needs to be something with protein or a veggie. I usually try to make my snacks very sensory (crunchy, strong flavor, ect) and meals less so, and that seems to be a good balance for me.

@lasaaagna So sorry I missed this!! I give myself 45min, but it started as an hour, went down to 30min, then up to 45. Its kinda up to you to see what works best with your habits. an hour was wayyy too much time for me to snack but I couldn't make a meal for scratch in half an hour, so 45 min was the compromise for me
