Does anyone with misophonia know a solution that works to control your emotions? My parents make me eat dinner with them every night and their chewing noise is unbearable. I bring this up to them but they ignore it. My therapist suggested I wear earplugs but I feel weird doing that. Does anyone have any tips on how I can not become incredibly angry and overwhelmed by their chewing?

Unfortunately trigger avoidance is one of the main accepted coping strategies, I'm so sorry your parents are unwilling to accomadate that. It shouldn't be your responsibility, but maybe trying to educate them would help? And earplugs might feel awkward but would definitely help. Best wishes ❤️

You can try noise cancelling headphones but you will hear yourself eat
