Hey y’all, I was looking for advice. I’m currently in an abusive living situation and I’m living with my ex. A friend of mine offered to get a place with me and we would split the rent. My dilemma is that I’ve never lived with anyone other than family or my ex and my ex and I knew each other for a long time. I’m worried with all of my mental illnesses that having a roommate would be too difficult. My episodes can be very bad and I split on people very easy no matter how small something is. This friend is also a coworker so im also worried they would tell my other coworkers about me or my living habits. Idk im just at such a crossroads and I don’t know what to do.

Now, get away from all those thoughts for awhile. Take a brain break and do something fun like draw or write or sing or something, binge watch Netflix. Think about this later after you take a break from it for awhile.

Take a deep breath. What did you have for dinner last night? Did you plan it out a head of time or did you get it on the fly?

Hey! This is a tough situation so I’d first just like to say I’m sorry you’re going through that. It’s stressful, no doubt. If I were you, my first step would be having a genuine conversation with the new potential roommate. Talk to them about your concerns and the two of you can discuss how living together might look. I doubt that your friend would think or speak badly of you because of these things — especially if they research and care to understand how these illnesses look for you, and how you could potentially navigate them together. I wish you all the best.
