i’ve found that my combination of diagnoses has made starting new platonic or romantic relationships really hard for me. how do/did others deal with that?

I can't make friends so I'm here for the advice as well.

This isn’t for everyone, but I explain how my illnesses will impact our relationship pretty early on. Basically set expectations so they understand from the start and if they don’t think they can handle the challenges they can remove themselves from the friendship or relationship before it becomes too involved. Sadly some people cannot handle our symptoms and how they impact loved ones. You’d rather know that now than when you’ve invested time and energy into them. It’s hard for sure but will save so much heartache! I learned this lesson the hard way and trust me it’s for the best. Best of luck! If you want a friend who gets it without needing to explain anything message me any time, I’m here!!!

@Belugabear that’s a good point, just in regards to the start though, it’s actually kind of triggering for me to explain what’s going on to people 😅 but i suppose that’s just even more reason for me to try it out!

@jamirani I get that. Maybe you don’t need to say what’s going on with you, but how it will impact them? For example instead of saying something like “my depression makes me not want to see people sometimes” go with “I have a health condition that may cause me to cancel sometimes”. Depression is just an example! I hope this helps!

Take it slow! I've also found that being upfront and honest, for me, has always weeded out the one's i dont want in my life. If they aren't understanding of my conditions and okay with the fact that I need a while longer than others to build trust, they aren't the one's I want in my life
