@Glitter46290 I am on long acting insulin and metformin. I just want an I/c ratio so I can eat a bigger variety of food. I am on a fairly low carb diet right now.

That's not right. You are t1 with GAD. Full stop. With a c peptide less than 2, you needed insulin day one. Make an appointment to establish care somewhere else and get your life saving insulin this week! Not having access to insulin is malpractice at this point.

I'm dx'ed for insurance T1. I was treated as t2 for a year. My treatment is really neither adult t1 or t2... I use less insulin than a 5yo, and change my dose often. Your PCP can run antibody tests and c peptide. If those rule out t1 for now, you'll at least know if you are better served being insulin dependant or if it's worth trying a combo of bg lowering drugs. It's scary not knowing, especially when you've changed everything but the a1c is still over 7.5. luckily with LADA, the delay in insulin use has less risk than it would for a classic t1. Many with LADA have years of success on 1-2 oral meds.

@Glitter46290 When I was dx I came through ER. The endo on call came to see me and said “You’re not a type 2, I suspect 1.5. We’re going to run some tests.” GAD was 16,085.0 and C peptide was 1.28. I don’t know if that changes over time, but that was almost 3 years ago. However I’ve been a T2 on paper ever since. 🫤

I was misdiagnosed 4 years ago as t2 by a very dismissive Dr because I'm overweight, despite having both types in my family history. When I ended up in the ER with my second round of DKA, I went to a different hospital and my awesome medical team knew something was up and did all the testing to determine I was in fact t1 and had been for years. The insulin the first Dr had me on was barely keeping me alive, and I felt like crap. Now I am updated as a t1 with mandatory fast acting insulin w every meal and checks for correction doses and it was a total game changer. As disheartening as it was to hear I was t1 and thus would be dealing chronically w this for the rest of my life as opposed to the far away dream of "beating diabetes" w diet and exercise, it gave me control over my daily life. Now I can treat my highs instead of just canceling my plans for the day, go back to a more complex diet of food I actually enjoy, etc. If you are struggling to keep your sugars low despite a good diet or are experiencing ketone build up (urine test strips are super cheap online) you definitely could benefit from being treated for t1. I hope they get back to you soon!

Oh wow. I haven’t found many other LADAs. May I ask if you are treated as T1 or T2? My current diagnosis on my chart is T2 and I believe it’s holding me back from getting proper care. Currently awaiting a call back from an endo referral.
