Hi! I’m Geo (he/him) and I’m 18! I was pre-diagnosed with Borderline PD before I was a legal adult. I have done a lot of healing and recovery, towards treating myself for, what everyone thought, was BPD. I feel like I don’t meet the diagnostic criteria for BPD anymore. However, I’ve realized that a lot of my symptoms that I experience now.. are more “in-line” with ASD. I was wondering if there were any AFAB people who were misdiagnosed with BPD before receiving an Autism diagnosis? Because I’ve heard that a lot of diagnostic criteria for BPD are extremely similar and almost identical to “common” ASD traits in AFAB people. Thanks in advance!

Hello! I was misdiagnosed with BPD when I was 18 and I no longer meet the diagnostic criteria for it. I was born AFAB and spent a lot of time talking to a myriad of psychologists and psychiatrists, being put on a bunch of different medications, and meeting a lot of people that had similar psychological sad stuff. It wasn’t until I met with an LGBT, trauma-focused and ASD-informed therapist that one of my ASD friends recommended that I finally able to get confirmation that I was misdiagnosed. The OCD, CPTSD, and AFAB combination is so much more likely to perceived by the American psychiatric system as aspects that comprise BPB and the misdiagnosis I received really messed up my sense of self and made me put a lot of thought and research into the possibility that Kaiser Permanente fucked up (who would have thought lol).

I've never been able to be diagnosed but for a long time before I knew the traits of ASD for AFAB people, I thought I was borderline too. But now looking at a few of my matching traits I realize it's most likely just my ASD mixed with OCD

I wasn't misdiagnosed, mostly just undiagnosed, but you're right the symptoms can be incredibly similar. Also since AFAB people are drastically less likely to be diagnosed with ASD because of false assumptions and biases in the medical community I'd put money on it being relatively common.
