i had my tilt table test yesterday and was diagnosed with neurocardiogenic syncope (vasovagal syncope). which, after 8-9 years of battling these symptoms and seeing doctors, i’m glad to finally have an answer, but it wasn’t the answer i was expecting and i have some questions i was hoping some of y’all might be able to answer. the diagnosis was vasovagal due to the presentation of hypotension during the tilt test, which from my understanding doesn’t occur in POTS (which is what i assumed i had before). but i’ve also read that POTS is daily and chronic whereas vasovagal is episodic, would someone be able to explain the difference? i guess i’m a little confused because my symptoms have been present every day since i was 13, and it’s had such a debilitating effect on my life so i’m wondering what the definition of “episodic” means in this context? if anyone has any insight into this diagnosis or what it may mean for the future, i’d love to hear it! it’s always helpful hearing from people going through or who have gone through similar things. thanks!

@DieselWeasel thank you, that’s actually really helpful information. i hadn’t heard about vasovagal until this test so i wasn’t too sure about the differences between this and POTS

They call what doctors do "practice" for a reason. They are taking their best guess, but they don't know. In many cases the guess is right. No one knows your body better than you. If you research the diagnosis and you don't think it's right, keep searching. Doesn't mean it's not right either, but there may be something else masking as this or more then one thing. Good luck in your search.

Basically vasovagal is like an attack. I have POTS and it's a daily struggle. Tachycardia, syncope and fatigue. Sometimes I get a vasovagal "attack" as I call it and With these it's like POTS big brother came along and dropped me on my head. There is no aborting it , no way around it you just have to weather the storm. This has been my understanding and experience anyways. I can tell when it was vasovagal by how violent it is , the headache I get after and the constant yawning.

Neurocardiogenic syncope (vasovagal syncope) and POTS are both forms of dysautonomia, but they have different presentations. Vasovagal syncope is characterized by episodes of fainting due to a sudden drop in blood pressure, while POTS involves an abnormally high heart rate upon standing. The term "episodic" in the context of vasovagal syncope means that the fainting episodes occur occasionally rather than constantly. However, it's important to remember that each individual's experience with these conditions can vary, and it's best to discuss your specific symptoms and concerns with your healthcare provider for a better understanding of your diagnosis and its implications for your future.
