In the past year I have been doing a ton of research on autism and I’ve been reflecting on my childhood and I’m pretty positive I have it. None of my family agrees because they see autism only in the stereotypical male. I’m seeing an old therapist of mine again soon and part of me wants to just tell her outright but I doubt that’d go well. Another part of me wants to start talking about the symptoms to see if they’d catch on but I’m worried they’ll think I’m leading them on. I’m currently going through physical health issues as well and with all the medical bills getting a diagnosis is way too expensive. Anyone have any advice? (I’m 21 btw)

I'm 21 and in a similar boat. I would advise you to maybe outright say you think you have autism to your therapist instead of seeing if they catch onto signs. I've had three three therapists and none of them have ever mentioned if I show signs (Ionly learned I'm autistic at 20 and saw my therapists before then) if you fear it won't go well, you might need a different therapist to feel more comfortable

My family calls me a child when I am 20 and the love throwing this sentience in my face every time I want to hang out with the adults they would say. "You can't be with the adults because you are basically autistic which makes you childish."

@Duckyqueen123 I feel like thats one of the reasons they dont believe me. I’m too mature, I could never life on my own successfully and be so ‘normal’ with autism.

@Duckyqueen123 Ugh I hate that! Being autistic doesn’t make you a child and I really want that stigma around autism to just stop.

I am 17 and my mom and I have been talking about the possibility for the both of us of having autism. Right now I don’t have plans of going through an official diagnosis or even talking about it with anyone else besides my mom in my family or even my friends. I did notice a lot of things similar to autism that I had in my childhood. I may not be very helpful in the matter, but a lot of people in the community don’t get official diagnosis either, I have some instagram pages of people with autism that I know of if you’d like me to send you to those? They talk a lot about stims and self diagnosis and stigmatism around autism.
