Hello! My PCP thinks I may have POTS and sent in a cardio referral…what should I expect? I think I have POTS or some form of dysautonomia but I’m nervous for the appointment

They may order a tilt table test, basically the gold standard of tests to diagnose POTS. My cardiologist referred me to an electrophysiologist who didn't order a tilt table test because he said that is something older physicians usually do. Instead, he went based of symptoms and I was able to tell him how my heart rate went up drastically when I performed the 10 minute NASA lean test at home with the assistance of my husband. It might be helpful for you to look up this test and perform it yourself so you can have that info going in to the appointment. For me, the heart rate change happened the second I stood up, so it is really important to have someone who can look at that number as you stand up. I was thankful my physician didn't make me do the tilt table test as some faint during it and because of the cost, but if it is what it takes for you to be able to get on some medicine, it would be worth it! I am on a beta blocker and fludrocortisone. For me, I try to heavily salt everything and don't worry as much about the electrolyte drinks unless I'm really feeling faint. I just don't think I gain as much advantage from the electrolyte drinks as from just pure salt.
