Hi, i'm a trans guy and i'm getting top surgery in March and i was wondering if anyone with hEDS that has thinner/more sensitive skin has any advice for recovery? I'm really worried about how i might heal... i'm not worried about having prominent scars or how it looks, just worried that i'm going to have issues with healing in general.

I dont have any personal experience with this, but wound closure is tricky with EDS. Personally putting off any surgery for pain reasons in my case. Also aesthetically it can cause keloids or hypertrophic scarring (google images). Not to take away from what makes you confortable in your gender identity, im just saying this so you have all the info

My skin is pretty thin IMO, and crazy sensitive. Adhesives give me a lot of trouble so there is that. Otherwise my wound healing is a bit slower than most, but it’s decent overall. Finding a doc who knows about EDS when it comes to surgery is crucial IMO, even if it’s just your regular doc who can consult with the surgeons about proper wound closures, etc. like what stitches to use and how long to leave them in. That kind of thing.

I healed fine! I am pissed that would my doctors have listened to me instead of ignoring me I could've told my surgeon I had EDS. I live my scar but I know that if he knew he might have approached it differently. Best of luck friend!!

I am filled with lap holes and past incisions. Take it easy, try not to move around too much. I used a collagen gel that I found on Amazon and found it helps heal things a little faster.

I’ve had a decent amount of surgeries in general and I heal ok, just slower. Just take everything easy and it might take you a little longer to heal
