How Does Someone With Bipolar Disorder Manage A Healthy Relationship ?

Me and my wife are always at war, we just so happen to both be bipolar. Honestly? To maintain a healthy relationship you just have to trust each other and be honest. If you're mad at them, tell them you're mad. If they accidentally hurt you? Tell them they accidentally hurt you. Fights are gonna happen, you can't prevent them, especially when one person is bipolar. But you need to get over when they do happen. That's how we maintained our relationship, at least.

For us, it's learning to stop when we are angry and circle back when we are able to communicate effectively. I get into a blind rage sometimes and often say things I regret... I also have a need for control that I am slowly letting go of through therapy. I feel like we fight often due to my need for control, but being able to circle back and apologize has been big. Sometimes , I am able to stop and realize I am not actually angry at the person/people who are receiving my anger. I am actually just hot or overstimulated. You also don't want to brush off your feelings about something, so it can be tough trying to decipher. Is this a thing I am actually upset/angry about, or am I bothered by something else that's coming out as frustration toward this person? It also takes effort on both parts, I feel like sometimes when people know you have bipolar disorder, they just assume it makes you an angry person, and that's not the case.

Lots of communication. Making sure you are doing your best to stay well all the time. Taking your meds. Self care. Making sure you have a wider support system than just your partner. Ask them what they need from your/what would help them
