my therapist is thinking about doing EMDR with me, does anyone know if it’ll help?

It worked for me, but I've heard that it can bring up memories you don't want to remember. I had a lot of forgiving to do, and EMDR helped me process my emotions and finally be able to forgive people for what they put me and my sister through growing up. I felt much better after. That's up to you! I think that if your therapist thinks you're ready, then maybe consider trying it. If YOU don't think you're ready, DON'T.

Definitely worth at least a try. I've been doing EMDR with my counselor for about 6months-a year & I've noticed positive results. Better able to understand & reprocess past traumatic events, through a much safer environment. 😊

i tried EMDR and had a really positive experience, reduced my nightmares and flashbacks massively, it was intense and i felt rough for an hour or two after each session but it was so beneficial for me

Maybe I just didn’t have the best match for a therapist (nothing wrong with her but personally I need to feel like we “click” to open up better) or maybe I didn’t give it enough time but I found it very difficult to get into. I only tried two sessions. I just felt very awkward while doing it and I don’t think I let myself relax enough for it to be super successful. Whenever I did get it to “work” it was like an on the tip of my tongue feeling in my brain but then I would get distracted and snatched out of it. It hasn’t been the most successful form of therapy for me thus far but even with all that being said I would still recommend trying it. It was an interesting experience and I can definitely see how it could be helpful with repressed memories. I would like to try it again sometime- probably with a therapist I’m already established with and comfortable around. Best of luck on your healing journey! ❤️

I went through EMDR a couple of years ago. At first it was really hard and honestly made my PTSD worse, but in the end it was really beneficial, and I know I wouldn’t be in as good a place as I am now without it

I was only on it for a few months but wow it worked wonders on me. It's a very long process and it takes more than a few months to make a lot of progress but i think it's worth it

For most people it's really helpful. It's been scientifically proven to be a very effective therapy in cases of PTSD.

We didn't finish it but it helped us a lot with our coping skills and helped us learn ways to process repressed memories
