Hi, my username is Primrose! I was diagnosed with vocal chord dysfunction last year. I’ve had asthma my whole life, but when my breathing was worsening, I did multiple tests and the diagnosed me with vcd. I did vocal therapy last year, but do you have any techniques to help with breathing or staying calm?

Voice therapy did help. Still have issues after talking awhile voice becomes very weak raspy. And when I laugh hard I feel like I'm going to pass out. Needless to say, lol I try not to laugh hard.

Fellow VCD sufferer here, I was diagnosed with asthma first and the inhaler made it so much harder to breathe cause it caused the muscles to tense up even more. The best thing I can tell you is to keep a boba straw handy, blowing thru one can help with open up your throat. Also, try yawning or using your tongue to lick the back of your teeth, these are all things I learned in physical therapy for my VCD that really helped me ❤️

@Stark that’s good advice. I got diagnosed but didn’t really get any therapy advice except now that you mention a boba straw, I vaguely remember that.

Hey friend! I had exactly the same experience when I was diagnosed with VCD! The biggest tip I have is to stay calm and learn how to meditate. I find grounding techniques to be most helpful- just get to know your body and your relaxation techniques. DM me if you have any questions!
