i know im autistic but my parents wont acknowledge it. i actively talk to my mum about my autism symptoms without telling her its directly about autism and she will agree i do every single one and then i’ll tell her that people with autism do that and she will say oh you’re not autistic stop being dramatic. i have had proffesionals, people with autism, my close friends etc also agree that i am autistic and when i did the RAADS test i got a score of 186 in comparison to a neurotypical score of 65. i want to get a diagnosis but im too scared to do it on my own and i cant ask my parents. what on earth do i do, i need help because i dont know how to manage it all on my own, even my autistic boyfriend thinks i need help because even he struggles to help especially when i get overstimulated and go completely non verbal

What helped me for when I go non vocal is learning sign language. The other thing that helps me is being in online support groups. How old are you? If you are of legal age you don’t need their permission or recognition to get a diagnosis. And honestly if professionals have agreed with you I’m surprised they didn’t diagnose you then. It’s difficult to get diagnosed as an adult (coming from someone who got diagnosed at 26) but it’s possible and I think your best option would be to schedule your own appointment and go to a professional in autism. Don’t worry about your parents (my parents who I live with also don’t believe me) but having a legitimate diagnosis will take a load of anxiety off of you and you’ll find your not as worried about your parents believing you. What’s important is that you believe you and a professional believes you. You got this, I’m proud of you for sticking up for yourself.

@JoranTal thank you so much, i am 19 so i could do it myself but going to the doctors is so daunting and it terrifies me hence why i havent done it sooner, ive even wrote multiple pages of my symptoms to show my doctors to make it easier but i can never get my words out… ill work up the courage eventually but its hard. and because im a girl they always put my symptoms down to “hormones”
