Well, I just lost my fifth caregiver in just under a year. One of my major difficulties is cleaning. In addition to my autism, I also have several forms of arthritis, thoracic outlet syndrome, and a host of other issues that keep me in pain most of the time. I have caregivers who, perplexingly, are only allowed to do LIGHT HOUSEKEEPING for me. If I can’t handle light housekeeping, how the hell am I supposed to be able to deep clean? To top it off, i live in the desert, and it’s been over 100 degrees, so I’m getting ants, flies, and some other manner of six legged critter I can’t identify. Apparently they all bite. The caregiver I just lost did the bare minimum at best, leaving my kitchen floor FILTHY, leaving trash for a week and a half until it stank, etc, then has the nerve to quit because of the bugs. The agency that provides my whole eight weekly hours of care says they can’t send me anyone until an exterminator has been here, which is pointless if my place isn’t clean. The biggest problem is that I’m high functioning, with s high iq and a broad vocabulary. I’m a stage trained performer and also have had no choice but to grow in as many ways as I could in order to survive because i was badly abused and neglected as a child, and have been functionally alone my whole life. I express myself very well so people forget or don’t believe i have problems. Aaaaaaaaauuuuuuuggggggghhhhhhh!

I'm in the same boat. They expect you to hire professionals to come in for the deep cleaning. But taking out the trash and sweeping/mopping IS light house keeping!! Call the company, put in a grievance report. A manager is supposed to call you back. Also if you'd like to connect, pm me for my digits for texting.

Sorry that you are going through this. I am high functioning too and have a caregiver and she is awesome. She is willing to do anything to help me. I went through a lot of what you are going through but that was before COVID. Do you have a case manager who assist with the agency?

@Overcomer sort of. Someone from adult protective services, who happens to be on her way over right now. Biggest problem is i get next to nothing from ssdi so I can’t even pay anyone. Also I just read social security will be cut by 20% in the near future. If I can find a job I can do, I’ll lose my help. Disabled people are treated like trash and I’ve had it
