I was diagnosed with cPTSD a couple years ago after some repressed childhood memories resurfaced and i had a really bad relationship in highschool (i won't get into details because it could be potentially triggering) and i've kind of just been existing since. i can go months without much more that nightmares but then it's like it flares up again and i spiral. does it ever get better?

EMDR has made a huge difference. I was diagnosed with complex PTSD last summer. After several months of expert counseling with EMDR and spiritual work, my numbers on the diagnosis test are now less than half the original high test number, in other words, my complex PTSD is getting healed. I still have occasional triggers but my coping skills and self regulating have greatly improved, I’m able to more logically deal with them and more quickly. I recommend EMDR! Scientifically proven with research.

It eventually gets better but you do have to put the work into processing your trauma. Healing is an ongoing journey with its up and downs. I’d try and identify if there’s a trigger you’re missing that causes things to flare. I’m still finding new triggers and I’ve been in therapy and trying to process for yearsss. I’ve found it important to keep in mind that I can’t go back to the past I can only learn from it. CPTSD shapes us in a different way that can make it incredibly difficult to heal with such deep rooted issues. As you learn about yourself more and your trauma more things get easier. Fair warning sometimes it gets a worse before getting better. Processing trauma definitely can bring up a lot flashbacks and emotions. Wishing you well🖤

my thing is (at least w the nightmares) even if they don't get better, they get less triggering. I wont make it sound like it 100% ever goes away, because what happened to both of us won't. We both have experiences that shaped us. BUT those experiences won't always feel like they define you. For example, my nightmare make me laugh now. Because, even though i still have them, i know my current support network wouldn't ever hurt me like that. You'll learn to live and feel deeply from the experiences you have. Even if you don't move on, you'll grow.

Yes. It definitely gets better. Healing is a hell to go through, but yes it will get better. Don’t bottle up your nightmares. Have someone to process them with you, or write them down and then burn the page. Don’t forget that you are out of there and heading into somewhere better. You can do this. –Katsuki
