I'm wondering this myself. I have been diagnosed with pots. My heart rate almost always goes up by 30. But sometimes it goes up by 20. For example today it was behaving like a normal heart for 2 hours around 70-80 when standing!! Then when bending over and coming back up from doing laundry it spiked to 187, then dropped to 70 and then 50... all in one minute. I have no idea whats going on lately. It seems like all this week my heart behaves for about 2 hours out of the day and I start thinking I'm cured and then bam its back to doubling or tripling my hear rate when I stand. Also I have hypertension too. I think I might have hyperadrenergic pots.

My heart diagnosed me but my heart rate fluctuates. It's like I have good and bad days with that or feeling faint. Sometimes I'm so symptomatic I can't get out of bed, other days I can clean the house or go places and not feel bothered.

POTS is dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system (Dysautonomia). The autonomic nervous system controls automatic functions including swallowing, breathing, circulation, digestion, bladder and bowel function, and nerve pathways. POTS stands for Postural (position of the body) Orthostatic (standing) Tachycardia (abnormally high heart rate) Syndrome. The primary diagnostic criteria is a HR change of 30+ bpm going from a seated resting position to an upright standing position. Many with POTS also experience hypotension (low blood pressure) with sudden drops causing syncope (fainting/ passing out). Some also experience hypertension (high blood pressure) or even bradycardia (low heart rate). POTS is not a disease of the heart muscle and is therefore not a cardiac disease. Many cardiologists do not diagnose, treat, or even have knowledge of POTS. You can look for an autonomic specialist in your area through Dysautonomia International. Honestly, it is all about finding a knowledge doctor willing to treat. Some doctors still go by the Tilt Table Test for diagnosis, by not all and it is not a definitive test. You can be diagnosed without one.
