Hey everyone! I’m new here and want to tell you about myself! I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression in 2019 and have IBS due to the anxiety. I haven’t found a medication that works for me so I struggle with it at times, but I’ve found some coping mechanisms that help a lot. Looking forward to chatting :)

I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression in 2017 and then IBS in 2019 after I got off Lexapro. I was prescribed Dicyclomine which helped a little bit in the beginning, but after a few months it stopped working. I started taking CBD oil and that has been a life saver for me! It pretty much helps me with all my IBS symptoms.

Welcome! I hope you don't mind my asking but what coping mechanisms are working for you?

@SalineTurnip I’ve found that taking walks outside helps improve my mood, reading keeps my distracted from bad thoughts, and having a routine helps and staying busy helps with my depression. Hope that helps!

I’m also looking for helpful medication/treatment/coping tools. I took an antidepressant for a while and it didn’t help with either. Now I am on a mood stabilizer, and it should help the depression, but I’m not sure what to do about the anxiety 🤷‍♀️ Good luck on your search!

@unicorn Thank you! I took lexapro for a few months but didn’t notice a different. I stopped taking it and haven’t tried anything since. Tbh I’m scared to since it can make my symptoms worse if it’s wrong for me.

@katie19 I am totally with you on that. It took a long time for me to finally try medication and then again to start the second one because I was worried about side effects, etc. One thing that can be a little helpful is getting a GeneSight test, which test how your genes interact with the medications and how your body metabolizes them. It doesn’t predict how effective the medication will be, but it does let you know which ones might be good to avoid. Some gene/medication interactions have a higher likelihood of negative side effects than others.
