Has anyone else had a small personality change after a Traumatic Brain Injury? If so how did your family react? I’m not shy anymore and I’m a lot more upfront about my feelings (but I’m not rude about it) . This has caused issues in my family.

Me. It started to damage my relationship. I can’t stand the mood changes, anxiety, depression, and thinking loved ones are lying and cheating on me. I wish my brain would stop with those thoughts and leave me be.

Same!!! I don’t hesitate to take care of myself or remove myself from a gathering. It’s a hard line of what I can tolerate. Where as before I would override my system and just be there to please others. I’m very aware of my personal battery and what I use it on.

Yeah I got more aggressive, I thought it was from being in pain and struggling with mental fog, but I think it’s just a personality change. For context I am an engineering student and post-concussion every time I tried to think about math I went blank it was awful 😭 eventually I think my spacial visualization helped to replace some of the logical brain function I lost. In terms of the aggression I was extremely passive before so in some ways that helped me. Still can’t get over the feeling that I’ll never be who I was before.

@IndigoBro Sometimes when we go from being shy to standing up for ourselves, the people who used to walk over us took that for granted and now feel betrayed by our change in behavior, because they can no longer depend on our compliance. It can fundamentally alter your relationships, but in my opinion it is for the better for both parties. It’s still rough and it takes time.

I have no social filter now. But I think it's a good thing. It's so refreshing to have people know where they stand with you. As my friend once said, 'Don't waste words; jump to conclusions!'

That's exactly how I became after my traumatic brain injury. I've definitely become more blunt and upfront about things, especially my feelings.

My personality is alot different. Alot of ppl don't like what comes out of my mouth, I don't think I'm rude, but others do alot, I don't mean to be rude but I was brutally honest before, now it's a little more brutal I guess lol. I haven't had issues w my family, but I usually apologize in advance when I go to appts and that's basically the only time I socialize outside my family and like 2 friends lol. Life in general is much different now
