Can anyone help me through a panic attack? I just joined this because I need more friends to reach out to when this happens

Sometimes what really helps is to lay on the floor with your legs up a wall or on a chair or bed. It can help calm your heart or breathing! Everyone has amazing things to say and help with so I'm glad you have a bunch of people here to reach out to!!

Right after I graduated high school I got a lot of panic attacks and the biggest thing that would help me is to remember they end. When I felt one starting I would go to a safe place and try to focus on breathing. Whether I needed to cry or pray or whatever, I did and kept telling myself that it will end. During a panic attack I don't believe it really, so that's why I have to tell myself. Once I felt myself start to calm down again, I found ways to ground myself. Close your eyes and name 3 things you hear/smell. Name three things you see. Smell a candle or essential oils. You can look up other ways to ground yourself too. Just know that panic attacks suck, but you will make it. Do what you need to buy be safe and don't hurt yourself. When you are completely out of it, see what triggered it and see what you can do to avoid that next time.

Hey, may I ask what triggered it? I have a few different methods for recovering from them depending on the triggers

      • Danic123

        617d

@GrayZombie I have flashbacks of my mom who passed away 3 years ago when she had psychotic breaks because she had rapid cycling bipolar disorder and it feels like I’m reliving the past all over again

@Danic123 can you try and take yourself out of your emotional state? Eat a food you associate with good memories, put on a show that makes you smile no matter what, get a cozy blanket, that sort of thing?
