i got diagnosed with anxiety and depression when i was in 7th grade after a panic attack or two and my grades started dropping. it wasnt bad back then but its been five years and it feels like its just getting worse. i dropped out of school about a year ago because things were getting so overwhelming, among other reasons. i couldnt even get onto the bus because i was scared i'd trip and people would make fun of me. now i barely even get out of the house. i feel like my parents have given up on me at this point. i feel like im going crazy stuck inside this house; everything is so repetitive i mix up the days. i feel like the last couple years have been a dream and i just have no idea what to do anymore. does anyone know of any coping mechanisms to make days more bareable.

Based on your profile my brother is around the same age as you he is in his room alot he likes computer games like mine-craft and that helps him when things are hard with my parents at that age its hard to be able to get out of your parents house even if you want to even people in their mid 20s cant afford to. In terms of coping mechanisms I think in this case staying busy and working on self improvement is best but also deep breathing positive talk doing things inside that you like motivational youtube videos or how to handle stress and anxiety and panic attacks is my personal favorite. I keep being told having a consistent schedule is and excersize is very important and useful (I have a hard time with it myself) but know it can help. Watching funny tv shows and movies when needing a mental break I think is good too!

Of course!! I have learned this from experience and from my brother being in the same situation Im glad I could help! I know motivation can be hard I think the best thing is finding what comes more natural or you enjoy slightly more or think of a goal you want to accomplish at some point and how to get there over time(:

This is very similar to what happened to my brother! Disability didn’t get approves and he works alot doing volunteering where he will get paid eventually. My family is very protective over him he isn’t autistic but has had learning disability. I know someone who is autistic and in pharmacy school right now. My best advice is to prove to them you can be independent even if they dont want you too. Thats what my brother is doing. I would try and see if you can do volunteering to start and if you dont have your license try to start at least studying. Most the people I know and im a STEM major have learning disabilities but that just pushes us to work harder and want to prove ourself. If you can find any clubs or other related things that will build your confidence and can prove to your parents you are capable of such things.

im still living with my parents actually but theyre part of the problem so its not helpful to be around them. and ive thought about getting a job but my mom wont let me, she thinks i have autism and shes trying to get me to stay home and see if she can get a disability check out of me. thanks for the advice though.

My best advice is to get a job if you can or find a way to get paid for some type of work. Working was my saving grace when things were rough at home. I would look inti free counseling and realize that you can always go back to school and being mentally set first is most important. One of my friends/ classmates is working in our field which is STEM based and at one point only had her GED and one person I met was only working at a food place before deciding to go to school and is doing great! Do you have any other family or friends you can stay with till you can get more settled?
