Does anyone have any tips for having your first appointment with a rheumatologist? I’m nervous and don’t know what to expect!

I have juvenile psoriatic arthritis so I dont know if its going to be differnt for lupus. If you are able to before your appointment write down all the symptoms you have to make sure you remember them all when you meet with the rheumatologist. I saw that you used the tag joint pain and so the rheumatologist is going to do an assessment to see what your joints can do and their range of movement and where the pain is, now this next part is going to suck I know from experience but don't take pain meds before your appointment its going to give the rheumatologist a better idea of your pain(after your appointment take pain meds, ice, heat whatever you do to help your pain). Make sure you are telling the rheumatologist everything you can about what your experiencing. Additionally, I'm not sure if there is anything about lupus that can be told to through blood work but if it can and your blood doesn't show anything be a little persistent so you can get the help you need. If you have anymore questions feel free to message me! (this also goes for anyone else who has questions and is reading this I'll try to answer them to the best of my ability)

@Neverlandgirl thank you this is really helpful, I probably would have taken painkillers without thinking!

@Neverlandgirl thank you so much! Yes they already have found 3 antibodies in my blood and lots of inflammation markers, it effects my heart so I’ve been in hospital so they have those records and I’ll definitely write stuff down to tell them thank you

@Belleromeo mines for lupus I really don’t know what to expect I got moved up from the year long waiting list to end of this month as they consider it urgent so I’m really happy to be getting helped but yeah it’s scary not knowing what’ll happen

@Igglepiggle I get that, I'm glad they were able to prioritise you! I've been waiting for so long and no one seems to believe how bad it is so they won't mark it as urgent:(
