Yes upright! They do an MRI while standing or sitting straight up. I just had one done recent. Due to the addition pressure that standing and sitting outside on the spine, the discs behave differently than they do laying down. They were able to see my L5/S1 disc bulge 50 percent more and make contact with a nerve on the upright one of which was seen on the normal supine MRI. Might be worth bringing up.

Also what does ur doc say about your facet joints? Stiffness generally stems from facet joints. Recently my doc and I have been investigating hypertrophic facet joints and facet joint syndrome. Stiffness is very common in facet joint syndrome. I would suggest looking up that diagnosis and seeing if your symptoms align. It’s not a go to diagnosis for many docs but is a possibility. Generally you can 100 perfect diagnose facet joint syndrome by doing facet joint block injections.
Upright ?
I hate when tests say normal when clearly something is wrong. Sending you best wishes
Has ur doc done an upright MRI yet?
