Does anyone else only feel fine about their deadname when it’s said by (immediate) family? I don’t like it when it’s said by friends or less-close family relatives but when it’s said by my mom, dad or brother I just don’t care? I get super bad imposter syndrome about everything and being trans is a huge one. It might just be that I’ve given up on trying to correct them because I know they won’t use it anyway (my entire family is Christian) but for my parents and brother, I really don’t care anymore.

I'm fine with my dead name anyways but I feel that way about some of my family and my pronouns and some nicknames/titles, they'd been calling me that for almost 20 years by the time I came out so it felt/feels like im used to it entirely. To avoid overall confusion I just asked them to try their best to adjust to my new gender and change how they speak accordingly but I never really did much in the way to correct them. My mom and uncle mastered it immediately because they corrected each other, my grandparents and dad never really picked it up because how little they talk about me in 3rd person and when they messed up I didnt say anything. My dad corrects himself when he messes up if he notices but I don't and at this point it's become hilarious, I have a full beard and flat chest so the person who he misgenders me to ends up looking lost and confused.

No I understand that completely!! I use my dead name exclusively at home with my family (so it's not 100% dead? Lmao) but my name with my friends because it's important to me. I wouldn't want my parents to change on account of me, but strangers? Nah man they didn't grow up with you calling you that, so you are so 100% valid 💕

I spent about two years on HRT being called my preferred name by friends/college/work and my dead name by my family. It was the most comfortable scenario for me in that time. I remember feeling imposter syndrome because I didn't want to correct my family but it's honestly a huge undertaking. And for me at least, when I was enacting such a huge transition in every other aspect of my life, having family be predictable and constant (even if they weren't "correct" in how they viewed/addressed me) was a relief in a lot of ways. Try not to overthink it. I think a lot of people go thru something similar but it can be really confusing to make sense of it and talk about it 🤗

It's completely valid to feel this way. Not everyone experiences gender dysphoria in the same ways, and some people are completely fine with their dead names. Remember that your experience is unique. if you fee like you're "faking it", just remember that most cis people don't have gender dysphoria

I feel the same way. I feel totally ok when my parents and family say it, but I feel kinda icky and out of place when anyone else says it
