I got the Mirena IUD and I swear by it.... haven't had an actual period for 2 years now, I used to be laid up for a week in bed my periods were so bad before I got it so one day of pain versus every month for a week... I'll take that trade off anytime....

I hate the paraguard IUD for a year and I do not recommend. The insertion was uncomfortable but the periods following were dreadful! The Dr swears it has nothing to do with the IUD but I had never had clotting or that volume of blood in my life up to that point. I thought it'd get better but I ended up getting it removed because I just couldn't handle it anymore. I don't do well with hormonal birth control which is why I thought this would be a good option but it wasn't for me. Now I just track my cycle using an app called Natural Cycles.

I’m sorry but yes! I’m not normally a feminist activist but I swear to the lord if this was a man they would be given anesthesia. The truth is that every person feels different about it and supposedly if your sexually active it won’t hurt as bad if you aren’t and if you’ve had a baby it shouldn’t hurt at all (I don’t trust these things of course). Personally I took anxiety and pain medication before I went. When they open you up it hurts but is bearable. When they insert the iud it was awful. I personally get nauseous with pain. So I had them pull a trash can over. The good thing though! For me as soon as it was over the pain relief was almost instant. Make sure to bring pain meds with you for after and I suggest having a driver and trash bag just in case.

i got an iud a few months ago and it was painful for the first 8-12 hours (it felt like period cramps) but ive had friends who said it just felt painful during insertion with no pain in the hours after. i really like mine and think the initial pain is worth it

If you don’t want an IUD but still want non-pill birth control I reccomend the nexplanon implant. Mine is literally just sitting there inside my arm and can be for 3-5 years. And the insertion was virtually painless due to the speed.

I've had 2 over the last 6 years. The install feels like a bad period cramp for maybe 12 hours and the removal is a pressure pinch but painless after. I have had no pain or periods with mine.

Yea, they are, they pierce your cervix with metal clamps to keep it from moving, it's an internal piercing with sharp metal, the only reason they don't require anesthetic is due to extreme medical gaslighting within the procedure

I had the mirena years ago and it was HELL.. I had to take Motrin almost everyday.. sex was painful most of the time too.. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone EVER! 🤣

You can must have saw that video of a woman getting her IUD placed, right? They're not supposed to hurt but the fact of the matter I hear that they do especially if one has lack passing tolerance. Doctors should offer localized anesthetic.
