I feel like the past year I have become even more alone. My memory is so bad I can’t remember people in my life anymore and it’s really to the point I only have my roommate I remember enough and everyone else I talk with I do it because that’s what I used to do. I feel like I’m talking to strangers with others that I used to be so close with. I try to reconnect with people occasionally, but it doesn’t feel real and typically doesn’t stick. Is there any ways you guys cope with this or find ways to reconnect and keep that connection?

@IndyMonkee13647 oh no I’m so sorry about your trauma! My partner also has memory issues because of trauma! All of what you said sounds so challenging😢 90% of people on here that I’ve seen, seem to have the same issue with people down playing their health issues. And 90% of those people say their family is the worst about it. They are called lazy or that they are being dramatic. It’s just so sad 😞

Gosh, I think in your situation, and I don’t know if you’ve done this but I think reconnecting would be a little easier if you share with them how it’s effecting your life. People can relate to people easier when they know more about their experience. I hope you find the connections you deserve! I’ve heard that a lot of people have had memory issues since they got covid. This probably isn’t your case but I’m just curious 🧐

@KratomEater No COVID here, just trauma lol. I felt like either that person isn’t close enough to me to get the ends and outs of me, or the ones I do tell either don’t care or don’t understand because my dissociation is complicated. I’ve had people boil it down to me just being tired or that I’m over exaggerating it lol. But I might give it another try with other folks. Also, I find that I just can’t keep connections easily at all anymore as well as the whole memory thing, I honestly don’t know much about myself anymore. How can I make connections with people when I’m disconnected from myself? How can I talk about my interests when I don’t feel the passion in them anymore? Music is my thing and I used to play guitar all the time, and now I pick it up every once in a while because I’ve forgotten how to play it. I picked it up 6 years ago and performed in front of people consistently for 3 of those years and I can only play a handful of songs now. Last time I went to perform was 1 1/2 years ago now . . .
