I’m scared to tell my mom that I have ADHD. When I didn’t know I had it, she would always make comments about my other classmates who had ADHD, looking down on them. I need a therapist, but I’m scared. Does anyone else have the same problem?

Find research studies to present to them and underline/highlight the symptoms that you believe fit with adhd

Wow, thank you! I didn’t know it was hereditary. I feel like both my parents do show signs. They lose things often (almost daily), forget what their talking about, etc. I also heard that talking fast is a symptom, but only I do that

A lot of adhd is heriditary. We’re you recently diagnosised? And a huge percentage of the population actually have it. I can see how adderall has a bad name associated with it cause “meth”. And adhd is just an excuse for being lazy or not working hard enough. Were you diagnosed as an adult? And what sort of comments does your mom make about people with adhd? Does she display certain adhd symptoms herself? Or your father? (Since it genetically inherited) And also keep in mind a lot of adhd research thst has been done are mainly male subjects so there are very few research done on women and their symptoms. Since we have different symptoms not always then hyperactive fidgety type!

❤️ I am sorry your mom has been in compassionate . I have ADD and my mother has worked hard to get me in the right schools and what not but at the same time she at times I feel will belittle me. I am here to listen and help if I can. You are not alone ….. when you tell her if she can’t put her unhelpful and negativity aside then shame on her and I hope at least she would be willing to learn and broaden her knowledge. Many hugs - you got this!

I follow a lot of ADHD and autistic content creators on social media (instagram, tiktok) might not be the best for everyone—- I’d drop some usernames but unfortunately I follow too many people and I don’t remember their names <\3

man that really really sucks, I don’t have many advice but I commend you for reaching out, I hope you are able to receive the care you need soon. One thing that really helped me is finding people with ADHD online that talks about their experiences which made me realize that a lot of my traits are just nuerodivergent traits and didn’t mean that I was a bad person. It really made me feel more heard and less alone
