My psychiatrist wants me to transitions off of SSRI’s onto a Tri-cyclic antidepressant. I’m TERRIFIED! Ironically, she wants to change to better control anxiety symptoms. Has anyone been in a tri-cyclic before? What has been your experience?

I am on board with psychiatrists who get out of the SSRI/SNRI world and try other things. So I would be open to it but I would shut it down immediately if the side effects were too severe. Good luck

I have been on a couple of them before, but they were for sleep. SSRIs were no gos for me, too.. I can understand you being nervous about the change, but I’m guessing that the current regime isn’t cutting it, so maybe a change is for the best? Definitely monitor all of your symptoms as you make a change and let your doctor know immediately if you have any severe ones, especially SI.

Personally, I hated my SSRI. It made me suicidal, so trying something new maybe be better for you even if it’s scary. You can always switch back to an SSRI. Just keep an open and honest conversation with your doctor about your new prescription. Good luck!
