How do you make friends as an adult? I don’t have anyone other than my husband to chat and hang out with.
I can’t do small talk and just feel so awkward in social situations.

As an adult it can be helpful to see if you can find any group that's focused on a shared interest to join, it might provide a structure that is similar to the way school helps children make friends due to their common ground and repeatedly being in the same place. Some examples could be a book club at your local library, a language class, going to the gym at the same time every week and (even silently) appreciating the shared experience with some of the same people repeatedly, or maybe a convention focused on something you're interested in! I personally can enjoy short conversations with strangers about their cosplay or art, because it doesn't feel like small talk due to the shared interest but has a lower barrier to entry. I've also started to learn to appreciate having these conversations and then no further relationship having to come out of them, but that doesn't have to be the case if that's not helpful to your social needs!
