My physical therapist recommended using a pelvic wand, it’s mainly used for pelvic pain, and from our discussion, many patients specially use it during their flare ups for the pain. I’ve only used it once but will let you know once I use it for a flare up and see if it helps decrease the pain, in case anyone is hesitant about buying one!

I keep cornsilk tea and uva ursi tea in the house. When I get a flare, I drink a cup of tea with a bag of each of those. It calms the pain. I drink a second one if there is residual pain. Drink lots of water as well and rest.

A warning about aloe juice: it can be a strong laxative. It worked for IC pain but even in small portions my stomach didn't handle it well.

Once a flare up starts, I put an ice pack or heat pad on my perineum (unpleasant at first but very effective), switch to a very bland, IC friendly diet with lots of water, and I've started trying the ICN list relief foods (they're noted and sprinkled throughout the bladder friendly list). Mint tea and garlic on white rice are especially nice and vanilla milk shakes (not great for some other conditions but...) or vanilla bean ice cream help. I haven't had to get a bladder installment or take antibiotics in 5 or 6 years.

I drink lots of water, sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn’t. I take Uribel which is just like AZO, stretches (I see the lesson plan that my physical therapist made for me), haven’t tried a heating pad yet but people have recommended it, and I’ve also heard that taking magnesium could potentially help, because it helps relax the muscles (haven’t tried it myself yet) and tbh, during flares, I tend to lay around in bed more.

i take aloe vera and that helps me have less flares? you can also try various types of abdominal or pelvic massage to release muscle tension, and that can help over all. i use azo when i have an acute episode because of acid, heating pads might help with the bladder pain if not the burning sensation, too. and ibuprofen or tylenol helps ease some of the pain also
