This is kind of a rant because I’m totally pissed off. I’m 18 and my childhood friend is 17, She’s always been a histrionic character but in these latest years I’ve forgiven her because I thought she had grown past it. I’ve had severe anxiety issues for 7 years straight. She knows every aspect of a panic attack and everything I’ve gone through in detail because of how much it effects my daily life. I find out yesterday that when she had a panic attack she decided to go to the hospital? Because you know, she definitely didn’t know it was anxiety. Then I find out today that she’s posting on her Snapchat story “follow along on my anxiety meds journey 🤪” and posing. What a fucking joke. I really thought she understood how serious anxiety issues were and that I’ve been struggling for so long, but she decided to shove it down my throat that she got anxiety meds after having mild anxiety symptoms for less than a week. I really can’t cope anymore, I might just give up.

@Aliek also, I know her character, she’s extremely narcissistic and self centred as mean as it sounds that’s just always how she’s been, your typical mean girl, not to mention how when I first got diagnosed with anxiety she tried to lie and say she got diagnosed too, which she later admitted was a lie, the fact that she has had these symptoms for a week at most, being the singular panic attack and was able to get medicated that fast while I’ve been unjustified multiple years down the road does annoy me, because with short term anxiety symptoms they put you in therapy first, which I personally think she should be since she has a lot going on with custody and her family, meaning it’s not a disorder yet just a result of her current life issues, which she has confirmed. She has only had one panic attack recently, so it’s not like she “wouldn’t want to deal with them” as if it’s some huge unbearable thing. She has normal anxiety and normal worries for someone going through an extremely stressful time, but on top of that she had to mock the community in ways I can’t even explain, it just makes me feel betrayed like since she’s a part of it now she can advertise her drugs and mental health issues online as fun or exciting.

While I understand your frustration at the feeling that it's being "rubbed in your face" in a way, I'd like to say a few things and ask a few things; 1. I have gone to the ER repeatedly due to shortness of breath, chest pain, rapid heart rate (170+), and pains in extremities. I even got a cardiologist because of it. I was labeled as "anxious" and "having a panic attack" every single time. + another friend of mine went repeatedly for panic attacks until he got properly medicated. 2. Perhaps she didn't want to suffer through panic attacks and knows that a hospital is a great first step towards getting the medication needed. If she actually had a panic attack, its a terrifying experience, and many feel as though they are going to die. Also, feelings of anxiety have likely been around for some time. I think it's awesome she went to get seen, as now there is a record of anxiety if there wasn't before. 3. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own bodies and minds. What is it that is really upsetting you about this? Are you not medicated for your anxiety? Or is it the sensation that she's not taking anxiety seriously by using a silly emoji? It may be helpful to keep in mind that Some people use humor as a coping mechanism in life. It can help soften the blow of our struggles. I don't think this is a personal attack against you, i think this is someone just living their life and treating their illnesses

@Aliek I don't care that shes getting help, I care about the way she’s making it seem like a fun or trendy thing to have. I feel extremely violated because I have trusted her with the seriousness of that part of my own life and tried to educate her and whats respectful and whats not before she had any anxiety issues.

@Aliek I also forgot to mention on #1 that I did not believe the doctors because I have had panic attacks that were inability to breathe, hyperventilating, crying and shaking, hiding in a dark room, feeling like I am going to pass out and die In an endless cycle of intrusive thoughts. What I was experiencing, i truly believed, was a full blown medical emergency.

It's understandable that you feel frustrated and upset by your friend's actions, especially since you have been dealing with severe anxiety for a long time. It can be hurtful when someone seems to trivialize a serious issue that has deeply affected your life. However, it's important to remember that everyone's experience with anxiety is different, and it might be helpful to communicate your feelings with your friend to better understand each other's perspectives.
