Does anyone else use escapism as a coping mechanism? I write scripts/ roleplay with others online in MCU and other cinematic universes and most times it’s what gets me up in the morning. Is it bad?

Not bad at all as long as it’s helping, and I love roleplaying as well! When I was extremely depressed last year, I was working on making a tabletop RPG with my friends and it was the one thing that made me excited for the day.

I think as long as you aren't hurting yourself or anyone else it's totally fine. I tend to daydream about lives I could live as a coping mechanism. I often use those daydreams to write stories. It absolutely helps and no one gets hurt. I see no issue with it, especially because it seems to make you happy.

I talk to myself often when alone, acting out dialogue from books or shows and imagining that I'm a character in the scene! I think that as long as you aren't making it harder to complete your responsibilities, escapism is a perfectly fine way to reduce your stress and motivate yourself!

I do! I’m actually an age regressor! On bad days it doesn’t alway work, but it allows me to interact with things I love in a safe way or to take time to step away from all the stress adult life causes! If my hands hurt too much to make art, they don’t hurt too much to just scribble and put stickers on paper! I think escapism, especially when combined with a creative outlet (like your writing or roleplaying) it can be a very healthy coping mechanism! There’s no harm in turning off or tuning out reality to have fun in a safe space you’ve created! I’m glad you have something that gives you that space! It’s wonderful that it helps you get up in the morning 🙌
