Has anyone talked to their therapists about ESA (emotional support animal) I have been wanting to see how to go about getting one and can never find anything actually helpful. If you have one how did you go about doing it?

Anxiety (Including GAD)

My therapist wrote me a letter for my landlord for my cats to be ESA’s and that was all I needed to do, to have them in my apartment at least! ❤️ I think that same letter could be proof to bring one of them places with me. 💕

I got a Guinea pig almost two years and quickly realized how helpful he was for emotional support. To bring him to college I got a form filled out by my primary care doctor about how he helps support me.

An ESA is any animal that provides emotional support, it doesn't have to be trained to do any specific tasks. If you already have a pet or want to get a pet, you can ask your therapist to write a letter for your landlord notifying them that it's an ESA and they legally have to allow them in your residence. They aren't allowed in public spaces like Service Animals are though, because SAs are there to perform specific tasks like mobility assistance or alerting their person to oncoming medical issues. There's no way to register your pet online, so don't fall for any websites trying to get you to pay for a certification or license!

My PCP wrote my ESA letter, don't go online for it. They'll charge out the butt.

I got a letter from my therapist for an esa for my college campus due to anxiety. It’s really simple to do but not all therapists will write letters for esas

Any animal can be an emotional support animal, they don't need any training. I literally have an emotional support lizard

But I think ESAs do have special privileges like being allowed in apartments that animals otherwise wouldn't be, so talk to your therapist and they can write a letter

I’m actually in the process of doing this now! I asked my therapist if she was willing to work with me to provide a letter for two of my cats. She explained to me that she included the impact the loss of their emotional support would have on my mental health, the disability housing act, and included her information if they wanted further confirmation. I also have a close friend that has done the same thing with no issues for a cat.
