does anyone else feel like people don't take ADHD seriously and think it's only about having trouble focusing?

Definitely. I feel like it’s part of this weird phenomenon where the public becomes very aware of a disorder to where they oversimplify the symptoms so it makes sense to them, then blame others for oversimplifying the symptoms and pathologizing everything and all it does is hurt people with adhd.

I wasn't diagnosed till I was 18, and so I'm middle/ high school my parents would get really really angry with me for my ADHD symptoms and it made my anxiety even worse. Now that I know what's wrong I've had to explain to them how damaging that was. I love at college when my professors either have ADHD or are sympathetic, and we make a plan together of how to navigate projects and due dates

Ya it’s so much more than how lots of people think it is. But I don’t rly blame them cos why wld u learn about something in depth that doesn’t affect u directly. However it is annoying when lots of guys my age r like ‘I have adhd 😜.’ No. Ur just loud and immature 🤦

My ex husband blamed me for having ADHD. He thinks I give excuses. And these things do not exist. That is what exactly he said...

YES I literally had to file an HR complaint against my boss because he didn’t take it serious and literally told me he wasn’t going to hire me back (I do seasonal work) because of it. I tried to explain to him everything that happens and he just told me I’m not at the level they need me at with my mental illnesses. But my work and work ethic are perfect! (Another side effect of adhd) I feel like I live on an island that no one else wants to take the effort to reach so they can better understand, despite me literally providing the boat to do so.
