Kind of a different question. If anyone can resonate with this — if you struggled with balancing your mental health and living with your parents because they worsened it, how did you become financially independent enough to take care of yourself and move out? My parents are loving, but TOO controlling and nosey for my age and it really truly worsens my conditions. The older i get the more we differ in points of view and its really dragging my process down. I want to be myself not live a life approved by others… if anyone can relate, you know what i mean… I’ve been trying to educate myself online on how to manage my finances and finding a job to save money/etc. any advice would help thanks…

I know exactly how these feels. Thankfully I have a partner, so we could just jump into a new place with our combined incomes. But even before I moved out with them, the goal was the same. Get a good job where you could afford rent in your area with no more than half your paycheck. There's always roommate pages on Facebook if you need, you can join someone who's already established. You are never going to feel ready until you are already doing it. I know I never did even with the income I had from 2 jobs. Sometimes you just have to free yourself and take the leap.

Save money either in cash or open a account and save some each paycheck that’s how I did it

I am in that situation. I am getting Social Security Disability. I have been trying to find subsidized housing for a few years. Been on waitlists for so long now. I feel so trapped here. I can't really focus on myself because I'm constantly triggered by their bullshit. They are the cause of my anxiety disorders and PTSD. I just live in my room 24/7.

which would suck for me. Nature soothes me and without it I get stir crazy. Money is hard cause everything is expensive

my parents go camping with my brother and his family a few times each summer. It's the only break I get from them. I stay home because of my cats. And I can't afford to go camping on my own. I miss nature.

Make a budget. See how much you'd be able to afford. And keep track of your spending now so you can be more accurate. Start saving up and try to have a few months rent saved up in case something would happen. I had a roommate, then lived in a crappy place alone, then moved in with a family friend (for free) to help out while her husband was deployed, now I live with my fiancee.
