Hey everyone! I’m 24 years old and have had PsA for 5 years - anyone else with psoriatic arthritis like exercising? If so - do you run? I ran in college and am currently training for an Ironman but my doc said to stop running because I might need to get my knees replaced - ah! Anyone gone thru this? Any advice would be awesome! Also thoughts on walking? I walk a LOT haha :)

for big events that you have to be running for such as a marathon or such id recommend getting on a steroid dose pack for short term so that your joints don’t flare as much that’s what i do when i’m flaring

i have arthritis and i do exercise i mostly do cardio but i don’t do well with treadmills it’s too rough on my joints i use the elliptical and lots of stretching it’s a lot easier on my joints. you could use the elliptical for some training so that you can reduce the amount of strain on your joints so that you can still run normally but have other options as to not overwork your joints and have a flare.

Have you spoken to your doctor about taking a biologic like Humera or Embrel to protect your joints?

I like exercising, used to love running, especially the adrenaline rush that you get. It's a great way to de-stress. I can't do any high-intensity exercises anymore though since it causes my arthritis to flare up and I end up being out of commission for like a week lol. Definitely would not recommend it. But I still very much enjoy walking. Compression socks and knee sleeves help a lot. It's awesome that you're an athlete! Training for any kind of marathon/triathlon/etc sounds really tough. What's an average day of training like?
