Hey! I have suffered from terrible emetophobia for almost 5 years and haven’t told many people because well I don’t really know why. Any tips on how to tell my parents so they can help me through it??

I always explain it to people like it's related to fear of dying. In the moment, it's impossible to breathe, feels more like drowning than anything else, it feels incredibly "wrong" even though it's biologically necessary, and (in my case at least) I never feel better afterwards, it's always an ordeal. And in a lot of cases, phobias DONT make logical sense and that's kinda the whole idea. I also have a fear of falling off cliffs, but that's not a "phobia" because falling off a cliff can actually kill me and it's a logical fear.

You should try to explain to them how you’re feeling and maybe try to get a therapist or counselor to talk to! Do what you think is best for your family to understand and help you.

Explain to them how much it has impacted your life, how it’s made you feel, etc, and what they can do to help you. Hopefully they will give you a safe space and try to understand, because I do think emetophobia deserves to be taken seriously
