I know this sounds very shitty but if you consider yourself to be disabled, how do you feel about fat people overshadowing disabled people in the body positivity movement and that “only fat people can be apart of it”. I apologize if this comes across wrong but I’m just curious what other people think about this.

@Student_girl It especially bugs me when they compare fatphobia to ableism. In no way do I think it’s okay to comment or make rude remarks on someone’s weight, especially if their strangers, but getting called fat or told to lose weight is never the same as being disabled and dealing with ableism.

Right. My disease is chronic, permanent, there is absolutely nothing I can do to change it. Fat people usually can change that. Not that people should be mean to either, it’s just 100% not the same thing

@Student_girl Exactly. They only bring disabled people up in the body positivity movement when it affects THEM.

It really bugs me too. Like my disability is in no way my fault. I didn’t do anything to cause it or make it worse, and fat people try to equate their fatness which is usually their fault and something they could fix if they tried, to my permanent disability. It is in no way the same or even close. Yeah super bugs me

I hate it. Like in MOST cases fat people are fat because they eat too much, thus making themselves become disabled and they have the ability it change it. Hard yes but possible. With disabled people most of the time it’s not something that we can just up and change if we work hard enough.

@laidir Yes especially that. Even if they were born fat, that still doesn’t mean your actions today can’t affect you and that you should just “give up”. Saw this TikTok saying it was fatphobic to lose weight even if you’re having joint pain?? It’s honestly insane to me how improving your life better is seen as fatphobic
