Can we talk about how bad The healthcare system is? I work in the medical field and being from both sides, my insurance is absolutely terrible. In multiple aspects (health and dental) that I pay more than 100 per month for no one accepts, and even now I have a bad tooth I need fixed and I can’t go anywhere. So I have to wait till I get paid and switch insurances. Being trans and trying to get that stuff covered is another battle; and I’ve tried seeking counseling and therapy and no one talks my bad insurance either. Forget how much I owe for my psych visits every month I go. I’m just really stressed right now and I’m in a time crunch due to open enrollment for work, and I want to switch insurances before it’s too late. I’m just scared I’ll be without insurance again.

I don’t understand this either. I have the best health insurance and they cover everything, but not psych doctors, which makes no sense, you can go to the emergency room for a common cold and pay nothing, but you need psychiatric care to save your life and nope that’s not covered.

i understand the feeling, not as much personally (i'm on my parents' nice insurance, and we max out early in the year basically every year between my dad's chronic health issues and mine so a lot of my care is free... for now) but with my partner, who has marketplace insurance. we went to get them a primary care doctor for the first time since they were very young, the front desk said we were covered both on the phone and at check in, then we got a bill for $300 in the mail and had to figure it out... we had already found a good doctor who knows a lot about treating nonbinary patients and thought she was covered, but nobody in the major health system here is, somehow. the dental insurance is just as useless. they have 8 cavities that need filled and need wisdom teeth removed, and the insurance doesn't even cover the latter. we can't afford either. they need treatment for carpel tunnel and a shoulder that keeps getting injured, and would really benefit from seeing an allergist, but of course those are all out of reach. it's not all sunshine and rainbows on my side either; i'm very lucky that most doctors in the area are covered. i see way too many doctors, even. but my insurance company is a huge fan of deciding what care i REALLY need, even after i get told it's what i need, and i have 0 income so i can only afford healthcare in the first place, even with my disabling health issues, because it's free until the end of the year... right now i'm having to fight over: - i need an adult autism specialist who can help me with my atypical, autism-related catatonia. most in the area do not take insurance - a bill from the beginning of the year that was retroactively rejected by my insurance because of the surprize billing law. the hospital has refused to refund the money my family paid. last i talked to them, they were trying to resubmit. it has been denied again and i've not received anything. - i need genetic testing to confirm a diagnosis of a "rare disease" that is the lifeblood of my disability case and is by far my most disabling condition. it seems that many insurance companies don't cover the testing, and i haven't called to confirm yet, but it seems that mine is likely the same - i can't afford the root canal i need for a malformed tooth that seems to be rotting inside after a failed filling, since dental is separate from medical for god knows why - i need a better wheelchair, but the one commercial chair that is my perfect chair would be considered out of network. i need a MD to write the prescription, but my primary care is a NP. i recebtly left my old primary care doctor (who is a MD) because she expressed dissent when i asked about getting a chair prescribed back in january, among other damaging dismissals and misunderstandings over several visits i think that, if my experience is what it means to be "fortunate" with my insurance, where my primary diagnosis that causes most of my other health issues cannot be made beyond "provisional"... it is easy proof of how horribly fucked up our system is
