I haven’t been diagnosed with ADHD but the more I’ve learned and read about it I find a lot of similarities in my behavior. I want to talk to my doctor about starting medication or getting a diagnosis but I’m afraid that they might think I’m just trying to get medications (because they are controlled) What would be the best approach to talking to my psychiatrist?

Generally just don’t mention medication, wait until your doctor/psychiatrist brings it up to talk about it and make sure to ask questions about potential side effects and if you can switch meds if the first ones don’t work out, that will show that you have legitimate concerns about it and aren’t just looking for adderall

I’d say that I’m concerned I have a developmental disorder (ADHD, ASD) and would like to be tested. Then if you get the diagnosis, it would be pretty easy to get the medication you need.

I did this with adhd except I thought I had bpd possibly, I told them that they evaluated me and I have adhd. I plan on doing the same thing with autism as I fit the criteria, screw what they think
