Does anyone here have issues conveying their mental illness to their family? I come from an extremely old school Italian-Catholic family and they always scream at me saying it’s not real and it’s “in my head” even though I’ve been diagnosed and getting help with it for years. Feels like they’ll never accept me and I feel so alone.

you're never alone. if you've got no one, you've got me. the biggest struggle was my dad invalidating my mental illness (even after EXTENSIVE proof she was real and destructive). there was no use in convincing him of the legitimacy. while support from family is so helpful, it's not always there. accepting yourself and the fact that you are SO MUCH MORE than a borderline is sometimes all you can do. chipping away at your goals and maintaining your physical health is a good way to 1. keep distracted and 2. prove to everyone that not only can you survive with this illness but live a fulfilling existence with it. not everyone will be on your side, and that's okay, because even more people are.
