I just want my thyroid gone. Im 24 and got diagnosed with Hashimotos in 2019 I have been having bouts of episodes where it feels like something is just… off. I’m more fatigued, I’ll notice my gland on my neck will swell. I have had an ultrasound and have seen my PCP who said we will just “watch it”. The way I see it, no matter what I’m going to be on medications for it for the rest of my life so why even keep it in any longer? Ugh.

I hate hearing all your labs look normal. Obviously not DA, or I would feel better. How about let's not throw another pill at it and let's look at nutrition. K?

I wish I could tell you to expect it to get better. I was about your age when I was diagnosed. The most I have ever gotten from a doctor or specialist is, "Your labs are normal" , or "Your labs are off a little we'll adjust your dosage". Finding a doctor who is sympathetic to the fact that even though you are on medication you symptoms still are very much there, seems impossible. Like I said I was about your age when I was diagnosed and I am getting ready to turn 45. So for the last 20 years I haven't found anyone willing to help make the pain, tiredness, brain fog, night sweats, exhaustion, etc...etc...go away, or even hear me when I say that I still experience this every day.

@BexC Wow. I've been struggling for the last 5 years with all of those symptoms and it's sad to hear that it doesn't get much better than this.

That’s how I feel, too. I’m so tired of fighting with mine.

I had a left thyroid lobectomy in 2017 or 18. The surgeon cut my laryngeal nerve and paralyzed my vocal chord. For 2 years I could barely speak above a whisper and my breathing was greatly affected. It changed my life completely. I have since had another surgery to insert an implant into my vocal fold so I can speak again and breathe normally. Please do your own research and know the risk involved if you do decide to have a thyroidectomy.

I’d be worried getting it removed would just cause another autoimmune beef 😥 I’ve been having the same flare up where my tsh is 1 for the last couple of months too
@Aaaahhhhhhh And they say if your TSH is between 1-2 you should be absolutely fine :(
I never considered that. Would we lose Hashimoto’s if we didn’t have a thyroid? Because damn.
@Falafel Unfortunately, no, we wouldn't lose Hashimoto's, we would just have no thyroid, which causes the same dysregulation issues regarding thyroid hormones and requires medication. Otherwise it can be life-threatening. Doctors want to focus on facilitating equilibrium in the thyroid system, not necessarily stopping the thyroid function
Same, honestly. Mine has been swollen for the past week or so, and even though all my levels are "normal" I still get flares? And yeah, you'd have to take medication for it either way, so I get just wanting to get rid of it. I wish I could tbh
