my partner’s grandpa is having a birthday get together and invited me, but i couldn’t go and they invited me to the dinner portion now, presumably out to eat at a restaurant. we haven’t been together a full year yet but they have a very welcoming family, i can’t help but be anxious as hell about it though. i haven’t agreed, i said i still need permission. how do i break the news that i get sick every time i think of this occasion? i don’t want to be rude to their grandpa but i have a very hard time coping with anxiety and i’ve only met him once :(

What makes you anxious about this situation?
@Cupcake2639 i don’t know the family well, it’s been less than a year and i know the grandparents and aunts now and my family is very closed off. i don’t have contact with extended family apart from my one side grandparents, once a year or so. it’s a very big culture shock but i’ve met them before. i’m honestly not sure why i’m so anxious. it seems like a personal, family oriented activity. but they consider me family to an extent now which i’m very unused to
