My allergies got so bad I accidentally got dependent on Afrin. I need to quit but I dont know how. The pressure gets to painful to cold turkey. Anyone else have tips? Has this happened to you? Is there surgery?

I use nasal spray before bedtime because by end of day I’m almost completely blocked off. I have many allergies also sulfite sensitive and histamine sensitive.

ugh i hate dismissive doctors! i hope you’re able to find someone who listens to you and works to find a solution. i forgot to mention in my original comment that the surgery is a very minor procedure, which only takes about 15 minutes. the “immediate” recovery time is about a week, and it takes about 6 months to a year to fully heal

I’ll definitely look into that! Unfortunately the ENT I saw refused to run any tests and said I was being dramatic and it was all in my head 🤦🏻‍♀️

i had really bad sinus pressure for years and my ENT ordered a CT which showed i had enlarged inferior turbinates which was significantly decreasing my airflow even with steroid nasal sprays. if you are able, i recommend seeing an ENT doc to discuss whether a turbinate reduction would be helpful for you. i still have some nasal problems, but that’s because i have quite a few allergies, which i’m working on treating with immunotherapy shots. the surgery helped me a lot
