Hi everyone, I experienced something kind of upsetting and confusing and was wondering if anyone else had experienced it too. I was chatting with a person who I got along with really well. We have a lot in common and we were both flirting and being complimentary. But at some point he told me that he only meant what he said in the context of friendship and wasn’t interested in anything more. I’m confused because he said “I fancy you” and he complimented my eyes among other things. I guess maybe because I’m Autistic I take things too literally and maybe I misunderstood what he was trying to get across? Cause I know friends can give compliments to friends, but this really seemed like something more. So I guess I’m disappointed and confused. And kind of embarrassed if I interpreted him wrong. Has this happened to anyone else?

Sounds like he doesn't know what he wants and is giving mixed signals. I'd just ask him to be honest.

i flirt with my friends for fun but this guy is definitely giving mixed signals. maybe you need to sit down and talk about it with eachother, so you're both clear on eachothers intentions

Definitely agree with the others saying he’s not sure about his feelings and is giving mixed signals. As someone who has dated a handful of people like that, I will say that will continue if/when the relationship progresses. Though I am not an expert on those types of people, I find getting involved with people who give mixed signals just ends up in a lot of confusion and heartbreak, with you made out to be the “bad guy” in the end somehow

I do the opposite. But that's only because I take sport in flirting for fun....needless to say...my friends don't like me very much.
Weird vibes from him why would he say he fancied you "as a friend" maybe he's not sure of his feelings for you or something. That is super confusing.
@mx.mistoffolees I Totally Agree
