Hi, I recently got diagnosed, and I was just curious what people get hospitalized for? I grew up in a pretty anti doctor house so even when I begged to get help it was ignored unless I was dying, so I'm unsure what I should be watching out for. I understand s****de attempts require hospitalization, but is there anything else I should be checking in on myself for.

The only time I was taken to the ER was when my friends saw my self harm getting pretty bad. It’s a good emergency option to have, but I am always more comfortable at home. Surround yourself with supportive people and learn coping skills. Don’t be afraid to reach out in crisis. Crisis Text Line is excellent - look that up and never be afraid to text them. Honestly having some Xanax on hand can help you avoid a hospital visit.

Thank you for your reply Buzzy! that makes a lot of sense, and I'm sorry to hear about your hospitalizations. I remember begging my mom to take me to a mental hospital because I was suicidal to no avail :/ but luckily as an adult im able to seek out the treatment and help that i need! I hope you're in a position to do the same too and get any and all the help you need ❤️

I have been hospitalized a few times for suicidal ideation with a plan to follow through. Basically if you are planning on harming yourself or someone else. Also if your manic episode is so extreme it might require hospitalization. I have been hospitalized once for a manic episode. Also I totally understand growing up in an anti-doctor home!! I had to beg to be put on meds. I was sent to the ER by my therapist and my parents told the ER we’re taking her home! But it’s good you’re exploring your options and learning when hospitalization might be a good idea. All the best to you ❤️
