On February 9th I am having bilateral l4 and L5 facet joint injections. My pain management doc told me it’s going to be 4-6 needles. I have had injections once before and just remember how terrible the experience was. I asked her if we could do them sedated but she said no. I am super nervous and was wondering if anyone else out there has had them and what their experience was like.

I have injections multiple times a year without sedation. Hurts for a minute and then it’s done

I’m hoping to talk with my doc on Monday about getting something a little stronger than Valium. Thank you for your input and sharing your experience. The more I talk to people the more I realize I don’t have to do this awake like my doc keeps pushing me to.

I've had injections several times in that area. A few times I was completely awake, other times it was twilight and the last time I was completely out. The last time gave me the most relief. Ask if you can talk to an anesthesiologist. I hope you get relief.

The only thing she offered was Valium. Which I guess will help a bit. I guess I was thinking of being in a twilight zone kinda sedation. What medication did they give you before? She said they could do more bc she was worried that the injections wouldn’t last more than 2 hours.

Hmm, do you know why she said no to the sedative? That really helped me stay calm when I had my injections. I dislike needles and have anxiety around medical procedures, so the sedative helped.
