I went to the doctor yesterday so that I could work on getting my IBS under control. He prescribed me 30 mL of Lactulose daily, and I already don’t think I can handle that. I’m used to having 1-2 bowel movements a week, and after taking my first dose of the medicine, I’ve had 4 TODAY. It’s been so painful because I’m so used to hardly ever going, and it’s made me so tired and worn out today. I mean it’s good that I’m getting cleaned out, but my body is really feeling the pain. Does anyone have any tips on how to deal with the pain? I’m having small bouts of cramps and a general burning if you know what I mean. I honestly think that I’ll just go against his word and use it every other day. I have had such a hard time today with this! I’ve been passing gas every minute (and I’m not exaggerating, I timed it at one point and the average was one fart per minute), and it’s hard to sit down because I burn so bad. Any help or encouragement is appreciated! I just hate having to deal with this. :( I just want my body to be normal.

Would highly suggest a bidet (I have Tushy, very easy to install), it helps me a lot with hemorrhoids and chronic constipation. Also could you ask your doctor to decrease your dosage, maybe to 1x daily or 2x daily with less than 30ml? My doc says that any laxatives should be used daily because our GI systems prefer routines.

The burning can be alleviated with butt ointment. I use butt paste for babies, lol. It works.

Sadly, your body is probably trying to catch up on missed time. Magnesium should help with the cramping (from my experience) so like dark chocolate is a good one for that. And wet wipes for the booty! I totally understand the wiping constantly thing. It may sound ridiculous, but honestly, an ice pack might help too!

@Niz Thanks for the advice! My uncle has been telling me to get Magnesium too, but I’ve been forgetting. I’ll have to get some!
Ugh that stinks! My IBS alternates between going once a week to going six times a day. When I’m on the once a week cycle I like trulance! It’s still kinda violent but not as bad as others, I was on linzess first and that was brutal! You might also want to read about the low FODMAP diet? I’m not sure how it does with IBS C but worth looking into! You can also mention hyoscyamine to your doctor, it’s an antispasmodic for breakthrough intestinal pain! It works great for me!
@Belugabear Thank you! I tried Linzess too but like you said, it was WAY too much. And I’ve tried low FODMAP, and it was still no help. Hopefully with this new doctor, I’ll be able to get some answers and help!
@Mafuyu I haven’t tried low FODMAP yet but I’m planning on it soon! Sorry it didn’t help. Maybe trulance and or that antispasmodic will help! Best of luck with your appointment!
