For anyone who uses mobility aids, how did you know when to start using them and how did you acquire them? My parents never let me ask or tell anyone I thought I needed them and now that I’m an adult I’m not sure how to bring it up to doctors without them thinking I’m faking, if that makes any sense. Thanks, Claire💕

I didn’t even consider that I needed one until I went to the ER for my balance problems and dizziness. Then the ER doctor suggested a cane. I use it when my pain is particularly bad or if I’m having a bad day migraine/nausea/dizziness wise. If you think you need a mobility aid, then you do. It’s for your comfort, not anyone else’s. ❤️❤️

Honestly sometimes you just have to ask and hope for the best. Some doctors are gonna think you’re faking it no matter what, especially if you’re any age under 50. If you can afford it just buy equipment you need like Braces or Crutches. But many can’t and I’m in the same boat so I get it. Maybe try suggesting phrases instead of outright asking? Such as “I’m having a lot of trouble keeping balance, is there any tools that can help me?” Or “do you have any suggestions for how to deal with -ex problem-?” Any way you can put it but that’s how I’ve gotten several things.

My parents are the same, I'm sorry you've had to deal with that too. ❤️ I agree with Solar Eclipse, though. I'd start by talking to your primary doctor about the symptoms that cause your difficulty with mobility.
